The investment will strengthen the state’s tourism infrastructure across seven destinations, alongside the launch of two AltAir House – IHCL SeleQtions hotels in Kolkata and Siliguri.
West Bengal’s hospitality sector is set for a significant expansion, with Ambuja Neotia Group committing approximately ₹27,000 crore towards developing its hospitality portfolio in partnership with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL). The investment programme covers seven destinations across the state, including Kolkata, Darjeeling, Digha, Kalimpong, Lataguri, Raichak and Siliguri.
The announcement brings fresh attention to the state’s tourism potential, with planned developments spanning urban hospitality, coastal destinations, hill stations and forest regions. Alongside the broader investment commitment, the partnership has introduced two new properties under the AltAir House – IHCL SeleQtions brand in Kolkata and Siliguri.
₹1,000 Crore Expansion Planned for Taj Chia Kutir
A significant part of the investment programme is directed towards expanding Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa in Darjeeling. Ambuja Neotia has earmarked approximately ₹1,000 crore for the project, which will add 28 rooms and around 15,000 square feet of banqueting space to the existing property.
The expansion is expected to strengthen the resort’s capacity to accommodate more visitors and events while adding to Darjeeling’s premium hospitality infrastructure.
Ambuja Neotia Group chairman Harshavardhan Neotia highlighted West Bengal’s diverse tourism landscape, pointing to its cities, riverfronts, forests, tea gardens and Himalayan surroundings. He said the group’s investment reflects its confidence in the state’s potential and its intention to develop destinations that encourage visitors to return.
AltAir House Enters Kolkata and Siliguri
The partnership has also introduced AltAir House – IHCL SeleQtions, a boutique hospitality concept, through new properties in Kolkata and Siliguri.
The Kolkata property features 42 rooms, dining venues and dedicated event spaces. Its design incorporates elements inspired by regional art and heritage, bringing a local identity into its hospitality experience.
The concept builds on Ambuja Neotia’s AltAir leisure destination in Salt Lake Sector V, which has been operating for nearly a decade. The new hotel adds another hospitality offering to Kolkata’s growing premium accommodation segment.
In Siliguri, the AltAir House property is located within Uttorayon Township. It offers 60 rooms, multiple dining outlets and indoor as well as outdoor banqueting facilities. Its event spaces can accommodate up to 1,200 guests, positioning the property for both hospitality and large-scale social and corporate gatherings.
Both hotels have joined the IHCL SeleQtions portfolio under a franchise arrangement.
IHCL–Ambuja Neotia Partnership Crosses 80 Properties
The latest developments further expand the long-standing association between IHCL and Ambuja Neotia. Their combined partnership now covers more than 80 properties across India, including 55 resorts operating under IHCL’s Tree of Life brand.
IHCL managing director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said the addition of the two AltAir House properties strengthens the relationship between the companies and expands their presence in the country’s hospitality market.
The partnership brings together Ambuja Neotia’s regional development experience and IHCL’s hospitality portfolio, creating opportunities to develop properties across different destinations and market segments.
A Wider Push for West Bengal’s Tourism Sector
The ₹27,000 crore investment commitment places West Bengal at the centre of Ambuja Neotia’s hospitality expansion plans. With projects spread across Kolkata, the Himalayan region, coastal areas and forest destinations, the programme covers a broad range of tourism experiences.
The new hotels in Kolkata and Siliguri add to the state’s urban hospitality capacity, while the planned expansion at Taj Chia Kutir strengthens its premium resort offering in Darjeeling.
As the partnership moves forward with its investment and development plans, the focus will be on expanding accommodation options and hospitality infrastructure across the state. The latest announcement signals a substantial commitment to West Bengal’s tourism economy and its potential as a destination for both leisure and business travellers.
