On the streets of Kolkata, National Award-winning Poter Gaan artisan Kalpana Chitrakar and Nuruddin Chitrakar sang a song about awareness about Corona. Bahurupi artisans sang songs of Annapurna besides Gajan’s song. This event was presented by Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers held in the heart of the city on the occasion of the second season of the Kolkata Street Music Festival in front of Maach, Machli, and More Restaurant on Purna Das Road.

It was initiated by Sudipta Chanda ( The Dreamers) in association with Kauushik Events, Soma Das, Carpe Diem while supported by Surojit Kala, Green Up, Replica, Turn It Green. Rupak Saha, Director Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, handed over insurance certificates of the amount of one lakh rupees to street musicians on the occasion. Sidhu the frontman of Cactus sang Badhu Re, Nilanjan Saha, known as Musical Sandwich sang Anjan Dutt’s Sobai, Sourojyoti-Krishnendu is known as the Third Stage performed their original song. Rocket Mandal a noted musician, composer got felicitated for his contribution to the field of popular music.

In that special segment, Rocket Mandal’s tunes got performed by Chandrima Bhattacharya (Kake Tumi Chao, Anshumaner Chhobi ), Aritra Mukherjee (Amar Peshay Kolkata, Bengali Modern). Debjit Banerjee sang Priyatma, Ritoban Guha sang Lalan’s song Jaat Gelo. Shouvik Mukherjee ( Sitar), Subhra Sankha Sarkar ( Percussion) performed semi-classical dhuns based on Indian raagas.

Sudipta Chanda, the organizer, The Dreamers, said, ” It’s a homage to those unsung heroes of music who hardly get their dues. Music is just not about popular artists. It’s to showcase our reaches through cultural and music.”

All in all, the second season of the Kolkata Street Music Festival was full of a variety of music. Now it’s a wait for another year.
