Eight reasons why you should never crack your knuckles

If you think that breaking your knuckles isn’t a big deal, you’re wrong. This is because it will forever deform your fingers cracking your knuckles can sound soothing to your ears. You’re probably saying, “Oh, what a relief” – but did you know this practice can be detrimental to your bone health? Yes, we know the elderly at home probably warned you not to break your knuckles because it is a bad omen. We don’t believe it has anything to do with superstition, but rather with your bone health. Isn’t it true that most of us felt relieved after hearing that sound? If you are one of them, you should read this to learn that it is terrible for you.

Here are eight reasons why cracking your knuckles is terrible for you.

1. Joint pain: If you believe that by doing this, you will be able to relieve the pain, the response is emphatical NO. Instead, you’re worsening the agony between your fingertips and wrist.

2. Swelling: If you constantly snap your knuckles and twist your fingertips or hand, you run the risk of swelling.

3. Weak grip: Cracked knuckles build cavities in the joints, which can affect the grip.

4. Reduced hand function over time: This is most common in extreme cases, according to Dr. Rakesh Nair, consultant knee replacement surgeon at Zen Super Speciality Hospital.

Dr. Nair offers some advice on how to minimize palm stiffness

Heat and cold treatment should be used to relieve stiffness. Apply an ice pack or a hot bag to the affected region. Concentrate on the tendons and joints and do movements or stretches to relieve discomfort and inflammation. These exercises can also help to relieve joint stress.“However, just work out or stretch by meeting a specialist and follow the advice of the fitness instructor. “Finger flexing and grip tightening are also good options,” Dr. Nair adds.
