Vaccines are the way out of the Covid -19 pandemic. They are designed to give us the same immunity as if we had fought off the real virus.
The steps taken during the process of developing a vaccine go through a lot of phases before they reach the hands of millions of people. But the human trials turn out to be the most important part, where the vaccine is tested on real people, from a small group to a large number. This is where scientists confirm the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine on a bigger scale.
But even before the scrutiny of effectiveness, a vaccine passes through a crucial phase where its side effects are tested. According to Dr. Kirsten Lyke of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, “In general, it’s nothing to fear. It’s our own immune systems kicking in and doing what it is supposed to do.”
When a virus attacks your body, your immune system attacks back, thus increasing blood flow to get more of the battle cells in circulation. Your temperature might go up as part of the tactics of your body to help kill invaders. The virus doesn’t give you symptoms of fever or body aches, your immune system does, and triggering the system without getting you sick, is how vaccines work.
What is the possible side effect you might face?
- Feeling of pain at certain body parts including the injection site.
- Mild to moderate fever and chills.
Covid-19 vaccines (two doses) give 95% efficiency and are good at activating the immune system. So, experts emphasize that most side effects as a good thing, it means the vaccine is working. Remember, if the vaccines were dangerous, they’d never reach the public in the first place.
