If a person begins to rage wars or voluntarily disturbs people on the internet it is termed as a troll in terms of internet slang. They commit this by posting digressive and explosive, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in online media (such as a newsgroup, social media comment section, chat room, or blog), with the intent of inciting readers into provoking emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion. To achieve a specific result such as breaking an opponent’s online activities or recasting a political process is what is required for trolling.
The good side of internet trolls
As unpleasant as online trolling can be, there is actually a shining side to those aggressive comments on your website. Have you ever come across a website where all of the comments and analysis seemed clearly staged? Most probably, they were. Trolls creating the nuisance on your website show the whole world that you’re not correct. But that need not be a bad thing. Removing everything non-positive can be a turn off to prospective customers seeking knowledge about your company. By accepting to engage with your pro -negative commentators in a responsible, professional manner, you can demonstrate how your business functions with sincerity even under trying circumstances. Even if your trolls are fully illogical in every manner, let your reaction set an example that you can be proud of.
The bad and the ugly side of trolling
At worst, it’s a way to break down someone’s online identity through the use of graphic insults and threats. Victims of cyberbullying or trolling are more depressed, irritable, and angry and are almost twice as likely to attempt suicide. Some of the feelings that negative comments over the internet can cause include; feeling overwhelmed, vulnerable, powerless, exposed, and even humiliated. Trolling can also cause a person to feel dissatisfied with who they are, create feelings of anger and even give the person disinterest in life
How to protect your mental health when dealing with trolls
- ‘Don’t feed the trolls’ is a catchy phrase used online. Meaning ‘remove them and they’ll be removed’, it might be worth mentioning to use this phrase when faced with a situation you don’t need to be a part of.
- Many websites and social media platforms have alternatives for using abusive behavior. It’s OK to use these or to use serious attacks on the police if necessary.
- Accept how you feel. It’s not good being trolled and it’s understandable to feel upset or angry. Putting pressure on yourself to shrug off unpleasant comments may make you feel worse in the long run. Once you’ve accepted what’s happened, it’ll be easier to put the incident out of your mind because it’s not worthy of your attention any longer.
Nowadays, especially with the artist’s pf entertainment genre, sports genre are affected by trolling, but many are standing out and are giving responses in a bold manner and fighting back like Tapsee Pannu, and many more. It is high time that one should not feel scared and talk about it more vocally to stop it at one point.
