Migraine is one of the most common conditions in the world that a lot of individuals struggle with. Since, migraine headaches are simply not typical headaches and cause nausea, sensitivity, and numbness, it ends up impacting and wrecking a person’s day-to-day life.
Now, what is Migraine?
Migraine is a neurological condition, which is often hereditary and is followed by intense and exhausting waves of throbbing headaches. But the factors that make it different than other headaches are, its multiple symptoms like nausea, vomiting, numbness, sensitivity towards any form of light and sound.
If you’re dealing with a severe state of Migraine, then it may require treatment with prescribed medication. But if you’re seeking a drug-free way to reduce the symptoms, here are some ways you can follow to cope up, or at least help reduce their severity and duration.
Dietary Changes
Certain type of foods can trigger the onset of a migraine, like:
- Processed food or packaged junk foods.
- Foods with Nitrates like bacon or sausage.
- Red Wine or any sort of Alcohol.
- Cultured dairy products like yogurt.
It is advised to avoid foods that may trigger Migraines and to change your diet plan if necessary. Be aware of which food is affecting you and maintain a journal to keep track of potential triggers.
Acupressure
Acupressure is one credible alternative therapy for people suffering from chronic pain conditions, involves the application of pressure with the fingers and hands to specific parts of the body to stimulate and relieve muscle tension and pain.
Pressure point LI-4, which is located between the base of your thumb and index finger, doing acupressure (firm but not painful circular pressure) in this point, may relieve headache pain.
Ginger
Ginger may help in easing nausea caused by Migraines. According to a 2014 research, ginger powder proved as effective as the common migraine drug Sumatriptan.
Yoga
Opting for Yoga can be helpful as yoga may reduce the intensity, duration, and frequency of Migraines and releases tension in migraine triggered areas.
Even though there’s no guaranteed study, yoga improves overall health and can be deemed beneficial as supporting therapy.
