Showering is something we have been doing the majority of our lives on our own, something we don’t need any assistance with. Or so we think!
It’s a familiar process of wash, lather, rinse and nobody ever tells you what you’re doing wrong in the shower or if you’re being too hard on your mane. If you’re suffering from brittle or frizzy hair even after shampooing ever so often, it might just be your showering habits.
Here is the list of things to avoid in the shower that can end up damaging your hair.
1. Hot showers
That hot, steaming water might feel tempting after a long hectic day but your hair ends up paying the price for a few moments of relaxation. Washing your hair with hot water disrupts the PH balance of your scalp thus causing more damage to your hair cuticle than deemed. Opt for lukewarm water if you’re not comfortable with cold water.
2. Shorter is better
Another common mistake we make is taking our good time bathing. But soaking your hair for a great amount of time causes your hair to swell which in turn removes healthy oil and makes your hair prone to breakage.
3. Too harsh on your hair
Lebels on shampoo bottles often tempt us to rub in the good and active ingredients a bit more harshly than needed for better results. But your scalp is equally sensitive! Instead of aggressive rubbing, gently massage your scalp with the shampoo and rinse it off. Be sure to not towel-dry your hair too harshly, post-shower.
4. Use Conditioner but…
To prevent dryness and breakage, avoid overlooking the conditioner. It’s essential to condition your hair after shampooing. But make sure to not pass your mid-lengths as conditioners function by flattening the cuticles and making your hair sit over each other smoothly, which can shrink the natural volume of your hair.
5. Quality of water and shampoo
If you’re suffering from hair fall or dry hair, instead of changing your hair care products, look for the quality of water. Hard water can cause serious damage to your precious mane as it leaves deposits in your hair. Install any water softener or filter and go for a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates can make the water harder and weaken your scalp.
