The 26th Kolkata International Film Festival kick started on 8th of January in the city of joy and it was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with Shah Rukh Khan and Anubhav Shukla.
This years festival paid special tribute to two of the Bengali legends – Satyajit Ray and Soumitra Chatterjee. The festival commenced with the screening of Satyajit Ray’s and Soumitra Chatterjee starrer “Apur Sansar” at 5 p.m. on 8th of January in Rabindra Sadan.
For people of Kolkata this years KIFF was little different but for the Cinephiles this year seems to be no different. People came in flocks to watch cinema and the seating capacity was reduced to almost half but it never went empty. “Cine Adda” continued every day during the festival like every year.
Shreyoshi Sil, a film student said, “KIFF is like a union for all the cinema lovers around the city of joy”.
For Jagriti Sinha, another Cinephile, “I thought this year would be different due to the pandemic but the vibe seems no different, everybody is in a festive mood”.
The Kiff authority ensured every possible safety precautions, from physical distancing in halls, sanitizer, mask, social messages, installation art. From youth to veteran people from all field came and made the 26th Kiff a successful one. Youth integration is more important in this type of festivals which we could see here. It is seen through KIFF that people of Kolkata had made this festival a successful event amidst this pandemic.
