Rice water for skin and hair: All you need to know about this popular K-Beauty

-

Beauty can come from genes but for great skin, a proper skincare and a healthy diet will help you maintain a proper healthy lifestyle. Many people trust home ingredients for their skin and hair rather than using products that are available in the market. One such home-made skin care product is ‘Rice Water’.

Rice water is a very popular K-beauty hack that has been slowly advancing towards the world. The reason behind this is because rice contains some amounts of B-vitamins and amino acids, which is believed to be beneficial for both skin and hair.

Rice water for Skin

Rice Water is known to have skin lightening and anti-aging properties and can glow your skin making it   natural-looking without much hassle. Usage of Soaked rice water soothes sun damage as it works as a natural sunscreen. It increases the ‘collagen’ content of skin, thus preventing premature aging and boosts skin barrier health.

Rice Water for Dry skin

The leading cause behind dry and itching skin is, Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS), which can be found in many personal care products. Anecdotal evidence shows that using soaked rice water twice a day helps skin damaged by SLS.

Also for hair, cause why not?

Even though there is no definite evidence, rice water, after fermentation, produces a component known as, Inositol that has been shown to protect hair from damage. Self reports conclude that washing hair with rice water at least twice a week increases shine and lustre of hair. If you wish to improve hair growth massaging it into the scalp can be beneficial too.

How to make Rice Water

Wash uncooked rice 2 or 3 times before soaking it in filtered water for at least 30 minutes or overnight in room temperature. Afterwards, strain the cloudy, milky water and use it immediately, use it as a toner or refrigerate it for future uses.

If you’re curious about trying out rice water for skin or hair, it’s clearly a non-toxic, inexpensive process to experiment with, as rice water has been used in Asian beauty rituals for centuries for healthy glowing skin and lustrous hair.
