Kolkata, Tuesday, 20th November, 2018: “Calcutta Pi”, a brand new Bengali Cuisine restaurant was launched by the popular actors Abir Chatterjee and Sohini Sarkartoday at Jodhpur Park. This was a joint initiative by Mr. Sudarshan Ray (Historian and Computer Scientist), Dr Abhijeet Banerjee (Doctor), Dr. Parbati Banerjee (Bio Chemist) and Ms. Suchismita Roy (Economist). The occasion witnessed the unveiling of the logo of the fine-dining restaurant.
Like the oddness of the number Pi the culture of Kolkata is also varied and incessant. True to its name, the aim of the restaurant is to portray the endless mystery of Kolkata’s culture which over hundreds of years have absorbed from so much and so many. Calcutta Pi is determined to serve to the palates of the people of Kolkata with warmth and dedication.
Sprawled over an area of 1300 sq ft. “Calcutta Pi” is a 44 seater fine-dining restaurant with a wonderful medley of Bengal’s culture and cuisine, serving delicacy dipped in the deliciousness of Kolkata’s intellectual heritage. Kolkata is well known for its vintage buildings of the colonial era. The restaurant has paid rich tribute to the antiquity of Kolkata’s architecture. It is decorated with elegant wooden furniture and the walls are embellished with conventional Bengali household style. The lights, the texture and the green windowpane are all reminiscent of antique Kolkata.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sudarshan Ray, one of the founder members and Directors of Calcutta Pi remarked, “At the time of residing at New York the only thing that used to bring comfort to my heart was the lip smacking homemade Bengali cuisine. It always made me think that there are so many wonderful cooks in every household of Bengal like our moms, aunts, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, wives and mom-in-laws who have produced and served recipes of such exquisite splendor for hundreds of years. From that time I have decided to open an eatery which would showcase and reproduce the timeless art of Bengal. We hope that everyone from office goers to friends and families would come and enjoy a homely feeling with a memorable dining experience of gourmet Bengali cuisine cocooned in pocket friendly luxury. I look forward to strengthening our presence in other parts of Kolkata and Bangalore and thereafter extend our reach to New York, from where I have derived the inspiration to launch a restaurant.”
The USP of the eatery is Bengali delicacies dipped in the deliciousness of Kolkata’s intellectual heritage. From the age old recipes like Shukto, Labra, Mochar Ghonto, Kasha Mangsho to new additions such as Phulkopir Roast, Badshahi Bhuna Chingri, Amla Madhur Mugi, Ghee Roast Chicken a wide variety is in the unique platter of the restaurant. To fulfill every foodie’s dream Bengali desserts like Kheer Luchi, Rosogollar Paayesh are also at hand.
The very first outlet of the restaurant, “Calcutta Pi” is located at 390A, Prince Anwar Shah Road, Jodhpur Park, Kolkata. The owner has left no stone unturned to give the city the best of the best.
