On 11th August, 2018 at Mahanayak Uttam Manch, commenced the evening of music and memories dedicated to Ace Bengali singer and songwriter Srikanto Acharya. The show started by presenting the sight of Srikanto Acharya felicitating the honorable guests who were, Bengali Lyricist and Poet Srijato Acharya, Kolkata based Music Composer Joy Sarkar, Pandit Tejendra Narayan and so on. The felicitation of these celebrities was followed by Lopamudra Mitra striking a conversation with Srikanto Acharya in rejuvenating his life’s memories through music.
The conversation revealed certain facts about Skikanto Acharya’s childhood, how the ace singer wasn’t never really interested in singing at the first place but was rather more into sports and later on when he heard his elder sister sing, he had grown a latent interest for playing Tablas and even now he still yearns to play Tablas more than he does for playing Harmonium.
The evening also unraveled the mystery behind Srikanto been addressed as Goopi during his childhood days, it so happened that according to Srikanto when he was 6 to 7 year old, world renowned film maker Satyajit Ray’s film Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne (1969) got released and was in the theatres for over 7 months and in a span of fortnight he visited its screening 3 times, and by hearted all of its songs to the limit where he always used to sing those songs and thus was been referred to as Goopi.
