Academy Theatre and Riddhi A Step for Music celebrated Bengali new year through a cultural extravaganza Bhalobasi Banglake on 11 April,2018,6 PM,at Sisir Mancha.
It featured songs, poetry dealing with performers from E-Paar Bangla and Opar Bangla ,from Kolkata and Bangladesh. Songs by Riddhi Bandyopadhyay , Devajit Bandyopadhyay and Swapnil Shojib ; poetry by Subodh Sarkar ,veteran poet from Kolkata and Shimul Mustapha a renowned elocutionist from Bangladesh was the central attraction of the evening.
It was more of an informal adda and musical journey through recalling early days how the Bengali new year used to be celebrated, rituals revolving around the auspicious occasion and how do we celebrate it at present in both Kolkata and Bangladesh.
This evening was all about it. Subodh Sarkar and Shimul recalled their childhood memories of Bangla new year by reading peotries by Jasimuddin and others while Riddhi and others would lent their voice to some of songs by Lalan Fakir, Girish Ghosh , Atul Prasad Sen and so on. Altogether it was a grand celebration of BANGLA Natun Bachhor.The event had been conceptualized by Riddhi Bandyopadhyay.
