Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee the winner of the GIMA AWARD for his album MOODS (2016), released his latest musical venture Rhythm Express – Music For Dance. The album was released in presence of cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, at Ganguly’s residence on 28th December 2017. Interestingly it features Odissi boltan by noted Odissi exponent Dona Ganguly who lent her voice for the first time to any audio project while melody has been composed by the Grammy Award winning musician Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt. The entire concept and direction of this presentation has been conceived and executed by percussion Maestro Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee. It contains four tracks – Within You, Without You, Rhythm Express, Pleasure.
The album encompasses on a vast spectrum of musical genres ranging from traditional Hindustani classical to South Indian classical notes and extending beyond the boundaries of India, RHYTHMEXPRESS features global musical influences adapting African, Latin American, Jazz & Blues and traditional Western classical symphonies. Prodyut, during his travels across the globe has been influenced by the beauty and rhythm styles of many places and has incorporated the same in his music through RHYTHMEXPRESS.
Speaking about his latest collaboration with Dona Ganguly, an Odissi exponent, Mukherjee said, “I wanted to present Indian Classical music in a different way which is fusion. Dona ji is by far the best Odissi dancer I have known. No one matches up to her level of perfection when it comes to dance. The idea of Rhythm Express is to promote Indian classical music and reach out to a wider audience,” The Odissi exponent Ganguly said, “It was a new experiment. We have music in our dance routines, so we tried and experimented with his (Prodyut Mukherjee) music.“
