Mumbai will be waking up this October to a new innings! Hosting Durga Puja in the Financial Capital of India has had been a regular affair but this time around at every turn of the road there will be new hope, ushered by the Spandan Powai Sharadotsav.
The committee has taken up this year’s theme as “Janak Janani Utsav” – A tribute to the elderly people. The highlight of this year’s festivity is going to be the celebration of old age and the foundation was laid at the recently concluded “Khuti Pujo” marking the commencement of the festivities surrounding the arrival of Maa Durga.
“We are concerned about the elderly people of our society and the future of theirs. It’s unfortunate that some are left on their own to spend their days in old age home and some others loiter in penury” added a member of the Puja Committee. “The elders of our society are none other than our own parents. They made us walk, they made us eat. They were the one who cared for us and they deserve to be treated well in their old age. We need to emphasize on our responsibilities towards our elders/parents in order to make their lives happier. The theme encourages you to give a thought, to look and think differently about elders and be more sensitive towards their needs” further added the source.
“SPANDAN Foundation has resolved to support NGOS that are doing remarkable work in the field of Elder Abuse and Old Age homes throughout this Sharod-utsav and remains committed to raising concern about the status of elderly people in our society” said a spokesperson.
The committee intends to distribute Bhog on all five of the auspicious days and undertake gala cultural performances. Truly enough, this time October will be a special one.
