Stanley Martin Lieber to Romanian immigrants Celia and Jack Lieber on December 28, 1922, in New York City. As his childhood was mostly a part of ‘The Great Depression, he and his brother had to watch his parents struggle to make ends meet for the family.
Lee got hired as an office assistant at Timely Comics in 1939 and got promoted as an interim editor. Lee also worked as an illustrator and a writer in the army in World War II. He was as efficient as his older colleagues and already distinguished himself in one way: he liked putting his pen name, Stan Lee, on all his work.
In the 1960s, Lee was asked to create a series for Marvel Comics which would also be capable of competing with DC Comic’s Justice League of America. Like Novelists have publishers and editors to ease the procedure systematically, superhero comics are plotted, drawn, scripted, and lettered by creative teams. Hence, with artist and co-creator Jack Kirby, the Fantastic Four was born in 1961.
The Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and the X-Men were born following the success of ‘The Fantastic Four. Stan Lee liked writing his comics with real-world issues and with a feeling of humanity. Lee was seen to be featured in cameo roles in all his films, which became a tradition that continued after Disney purchased Marvel in 2009.
Giving 60 years of his life to Marvel studios, Stan Lee started working on other projects. Apart from his work in the media industry, he wrote books on his life as well as comics. He was awarded a National Medal of Arts in the year of 2008.
