Tacos were invented centuries ago in Mexico and have since been Americanized. It can be difficult to pinpoint when the meals you know and to enjoy today originated, as it is with many common food dishes.
Today’s recipe is ‘Street Tacos Mexicana’. It’s a fast recipe for skirt steak that uses a simple marinade. It just needs to marinate for an hour before being tossed into a skillet. After that, garnish your tacos with diced onion, cilantro, and lime juice. There are 6 servings in this recipe in total. The time you’re going to need to prepare is 1 hour 15 minutes.15 minutes to cook.1 hour and 30 minutes in total.
Ingredients that you would need are:
- 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 tablespoons canola oil, divided
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 1/2 pounds skirt steak, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 12 mini flour tortillas, warmed
- 3/4 cup diced red onion
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Directions to be followed:
- Combine soy sauce, lime juice, 1 tablespoon canola oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano in a medium mixing cup.
- Combine the soy sauce mixture and the steak in a gallon-size Ziploc bag or a big mixing bowl; marinate for at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours, turning the bag periodically.
- In a large skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon canola oil over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently until the steak has browned and the marinade has decreased, around 5-6 minutes, or until the desired doneness is reached.
- Top steak with onion, cilantro, and lime in tortillas. Enjoy!
