-

‘Violet Evergarden’ is definitely one of the most emotional and beautiful anime ever made. If you are looking for hope in dark places, this is the perfect anime to catch up with. The way the show builds up its characters and the story is endearing and heart-wrenching. For those who don’t know ‘Violet Evergarden’ is an adaption of a Japanese light novel written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase.

‘Violet Evergarden’ follows the story of an Auto-memory doll who was found by Dietfried Bougainvillea and then handed over to Gilbert Bougainvillea, who instead of treating Violet as a weapon, treated her as a human, taught her to read and write.

The story follows the events after the war when Violet wakes up to find her Major missing, she soon embarks on the journey to find the meaning of ‘I love you’ that were Major Gilbert’s last words for her. One would wonder that how could the meaning of those words explained, but the show does it so beautifully that it will leave you smiling through your tears. Throughout the whole show Violet keeps asking people that all she wants, is to know the meaning of ‘I love you’, and they stay astounded because maybe its meant to be felt and not explained, you soon realize you will be astounded too if ever confronted with such a question. That is exactly the effect the show will have on you, the characters are crafted with so much care and beauty that soon you will feel like you are around them, in their very own world. Even though these characters do not exist in the real world, you will be left with a longing, wishing they belonged to the real world.

Violet starts writing letters for people and she starts to understand every emotion a human being goes through. A bride confused about the feelings of the man she is to marry, and father who has lost a daughter, and a mother who does not have enough time for her daughter, through the letters Violet writes for each of these people helps her understand what Major Gilbert’s last words meant. Coming to the soundtrack of the series, it will integrate itself into your soul and stay with you days after you are done watching the series.

‘Violet Evergarden’, will make you cry over lost love and then it will make you hopeful over winning it back, and in this process, it will make you feel the best things in the world, the things which cannot be explained. So if you are giving your time and energy to this series, it will surely leave you overwhelmed. Keep your tissue box ready by your side, because by the time you reach episode 10, you will definitely need them!
