There are several stereotypes about old-age all around the world. Mostly brought out by assumptions of different people. The truth is, a good lifestyle and healthy habits are the keys to age well. Therefore this article will help you to change your perception about aging if you were influenced by any such assumption or stereotype.
1. Older people should avoid physical activities or exercising to prevent themselves from getting injured: Exercising is one of the healthiest ways to keep an individual fit. It helps with several health conditions. It is beneficial for mental as well as physical health. Therefore, Inactivity is one of the reasons to blame.
2. Older people are unable to learn new things: We typically assume that our brain gets rusty the more we age hence we can’t learn new stuff. It is not true! They still possess the ability to learn something new, create memories and improve skills.
3. They tend to end up alone: Research shows that old people remain happier in a social setting surrounded by people of their age. Relationships change with situations but a person’s ability to make friends never goes. Several communities have come up with the idea of creating social connections and it turns out to be better than them staying at their home alone.
They are less adaptable to change: Though it depends from person to person, old people might still find new things adventures and cope with them. They might be slower at adapting to changes but that doesn’t change the probability that they can’t.
Too old to quit smoking: No matter what your age is, smoking will be hazardous to health. Therefore, quitting anytime would help and it improves your health gradually. Smoking causes an immediate and long-term rise in your heart rate and blood pressure, but quitting can lead to a lowering of heart rate and blood pressure over time, which is more than helpful for old people setting an example for the future generation.
