Shyam Sarkar presented a unique musical tribute cum launch of the new band of Sujoy Bhowmick, Rupankar, Ujjaini titled Abhijaan to celebrate popular music from 50’s till 2010 on 17 November,2018, Uttam Mancha. Music of Indian popular films was celebrated with a new age musical arrangement by noted artiste Rupankar, Ujjaini and Sujoy Bhowmik.
It was a trip down memory lane kind of a journey with anecdotes, songs.Rupankar was the story teller and sang along with two other noted singers Ujjaini and Sujoy Bhowmik.Songs by legends Hemanta Mukherjee, Manna Dey, S.D.Burman, R.D.Burman, Shyamal Mitra, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and so on were performed with a new age sound.Popular Hindi and Bengali film songs from the 50’s till the 2010 was the key attraction of the musical. Rupankar said, ” It’s a collaborative production to recall the music of those days when melody was queen.Initially I planned not to go for cover songs but gradually those songs haunts me like anything. Myself Sujoy and Ujjaini planned to team up and perform those gems with a fresh arrangement.
As it’s a musical journey Sujoy named the band Abhijaan.” The musical started with Rupankar’s solo Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki ( music- Naushad ) followed by Ujjaini’s melodious renditions on Nishi Raat Banka Chand Akashe ( music- Nachiketa Ghosh), Aro Dure Chalo Jai ( music- Sudhin Dasgupta ), Sujoy Bhowmick’s energetic rendition on Ami Cheye Cheye Dekhi Saradin ( music- Shyamal Mitra ), Rupankar-Ujjaini’s melodious duet from the film Ghar Aap Ki Ankhon Kuch ( music- R.D.Burman ) worth a special mention.
