Veteran actress Madhabi Mukhopadhyay launched a wall calendar 2019 in memory of Uttam Kumar titled “Mahanayak” at Uttam Mancha on Uttam Kumar’s 92 nd birth anniversary.It was released during a musical “Surer Akashe Tumi Je Go Shuktara” organized by Shyam Sarkar.
” Surer Akashe Tumi Je Go Shuktara” the musical was conceived and presented by Shyam Sarkar where singers like Pallab Ghosh,Sutapa Bhattacharya, Saikat Mitra,Parnava,Sujoy Bhowmick, Vaskar,Sumana Chakraborty, Sispiya Banerjee, Samik Paul, Babji Sanyal, Disha Roy sang songs from Uttam Kumar’s various films. The evening was also graced by Debasis Kumar ( MIC, Kolkata Municipal Corporation ).
The calendar features 24 film posters covering a high range of variety from very popular films like Harano Sur, Dui Bhai, Shapmochan,Ogo Badhu Sundori,Saptapadi, Nayak, Abak Prithibi, Sagarika, Chirodiner, Antony Firingi , Dhanyi Meye some are not so popular films like Kankabotir Ghat, Shikar, Putro Badhu can be seen.
It features combination of various heroines/ actresses like with Suchitra Sen Saptapadi, Harano Sur, Sagarika,Alo Amar Alo while with Supriya Chirodiner , Mon Niye, with Arundhati Devi Shikar, Jatugriha,with Sharmila Tagore Ananda Ashram, Nayak, With Tanuja Antony Firingi and Jaya Bhaduri in Dhanyi Meye, Mausumi Chatterjee in Ogo Badhu Sundori and so on. He appreade with Soumitra Chatterjee in a few films while this calendar features two of them Jhinder Bondi and Stree.Music directors like Hemanta Mukhopadhyay worked in most of his films while Ali Akhbar Khan scored the music for Rajodrohi can be seen the poster here.Directors like Satyajit Ray ( Nayak ), Tapan Sinha ( Jhinder Bandi, Jatugriha ) , Ajay Kar ( Saptapadi ), Shakti Samanta ( Ananda Ashram ), Bikash Ray ( Marutirtha Hinglaj ) did a remarkable films with Uttam and this calendar features all of such films. Interestingly , Bandie’s Hindi poster can be seen with the Oriya title which was made for the Orissa release.
As a whole the wall calendar would be a collector’s delight and celebration of Uttam Kumar films throughout a year.
