Kolkata, January 27, 2018: The Grand Inauguration of ‘Response: Installations & New Media’ was held today at the historic Gem Cinema in the esteemed presence of Mr. Friso Maecker, Director, Goethe-Institute, Max Mueller Bhavan, Kolkata, Mr. Dipanjan Chakrabarti, Director, British Council, Kolkata, Mr. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Renowned Film Director and Dr. Rudrangshu Mukherjee, Historian and Chancellor, Ashoka University.
The overlying theme for the exhibition was to connect the past with the future. The exhibition marks the second part of CIMA’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. Contemporary Artists from all over the country, who work in non conventional media, have participated in this month long exhibition.
Manas Acharya, Samir Aich, CAMP, Debasis Barui, Sumitro Basak, Veena Bhargava, Jayasri Burman, Jayashree Chakraborty, Utsab Chatterjee, Anju Chaudhuri, Kenneth Cyrus, Ankur Das, Partha Pratim Deb, Avni Doshi, Jaya Ganguly, Paul Holmes, Durbananda Jana, Ranbir Kaleka, Rathin Kanji, Harendra Kumar Kushwaha, Sukanta Majumder, Chittrovanu Mazumdar, Hiran Mitra, Madhuja Mukherjee, Moloy Mukherjee, Sumantra Mukherjee, Pankaj Panwar, Sourav Roy Chowdhury, Prasanta Sahu, Suman Samajpati, Kingshuk Sarkar, Rashmi Bagchi Sarkar, Gigi Scaria, Anjum Singh, Bandeep Singh, Surekha are amongst those who have participated in the exhibition.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Pratiti Basu Sarkar, Chief Administrator, CIMA Gallery said, ”This spectacular and rare exhibition of New Media and Installation art, makes the future present and the present, past. It has some of the most exciting and fine artists in India, who use the new language of technology and combine it with poetry and painting. It is an exhibition of the overlapping of time.”
The exhibition showcases various installations, video art, graphiti and various non-traditional genres and highlights the period between 1990s to current times. Response: Installations& New Media will go on till 28th February, 2018.
