Badminton is one of the fastest growing sports and the second most watched game in the country. With the super success of Indian Players in the International Arena starting from Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu and Jwala Gutta in the women’s section and K. Srikant, H.S. Pranay, Guru Sai Datt, Sai Praneeth and P. Kashyap amongst others in the men’s section with many aspiring and talented players in the running, the popularity of this game is increasing by leaps and bounds.
Bengal has had a tradition of producing eminent International and National players although at present the representation is at a huge discount. Also good players are moving to different States for better opportunity and infrastructure thereby depriving the State from its talent and glory.
Multicon Group, has over three decades diversified its interests in the fields of Real Estate, Foreign Exchange, Digital Media and Education.
The ethos of the organization has always been to be the first mover in potential business opportunities and thereafter expand the boundaries with research and expertise gained from hands-on experience.
The team behind Multicon Group comprises of ardent sports lovers who are interested in promoting sports which Bengal is known for. Multicon Group has formed a team christened ‘Shining Stars-Kolkata’ which will participate in the ensuing Indian Masters Badminton League Season II at Tiruppur, Tamilnadu from 12th-15th August, 2017, a Badminton Association of India (BAI) approved tournament. Team Shining Stars recognizes the fact that active participation in sports helps build personality, induce fair-play and sportsmanship and contribute to the overall growth of an individual and the Society he/she is a part of. While the players in the team were to be selected on the format of auction like in other premier leagues, Multicon Group has ensured selection of as many players from Bengal as possible with the intent of showcasing the talent of such players and creating the required hype so that more aspiring and talented players come forward from Bengal representing the State in National and India in International events.
Apart from the top players of Bengal, Kolkata Shining Stars has the privilege of having 35+ plus National Champion Nikhil Kanetkar, ex-Olympian as one of its key players as also others from different States.
Prominent players from Bengal like Arup Baidya, Soumen Bhattacharjee, Sanjay Ray, Hirak Kanti Sengupta, Amrita Bhattacharjee, Sanjoy Das actually need no introduction.
The Visionary Duo, Mr Dilip Singh Mehta, Chairman Multicon Group and Mr Arjun Singh Mehta, Director Multicon Group, believe in the standard and excellence of the players.” We want more players to come up, play for the state and all over the country. The main idea is to encourage badminton in every sphere. The future plan is going to be all about promoting sports of all kinds.”
Prasanta Saha, COO said,” IMBL, will help us to promote Bengal Badminton to reach the youth of our country.”
Shri Subrata Banerjee, former Indian Player is the Technical Director of the Team said, “The players are balanced, trained and strong, and therefore there are high chances of the team winning.”
