In a Question-Answer session, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO at Facebook said ”What people really want is to be able to express empathy”. According to the company, the requirement of a dislike button comes up especially when there are sad updates on the newsfeed and people do not find it right to “like” the status and they need a tool to show their support for the same.
Mark also added that Facebook is very close to having the dislike button ready for user testing on the website. He clearly stated that he doesn’t want people to make use of the dislike button to down vote other people’s posts. However as it seems, a lot of people might be using the button the other way. It might even be a problem for advertisers where users might just start disliking sponsored posts as they appear between news feeds.
A lot is yet to be disclosed and as they have always done, Facebook shall definitely work on issues arising from this new inclusion so that nothing is hampered in the long run.
