In a statement to NBC, Ritter’s rep said, “It is with great sorrow that we can confirm that Paul Ritter passed away last night.” “He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah. He was 54 years old and had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.” Paul was an extraordinarily talented actor who excelled in a wide range of roles on stage and television,” the message added. “He was a brilliant, kind, and witty person. He will be sorely missed.”
Ritter’s credits include the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, in addition to his Harry Potter appearance. Ritter has played Martin Goodman in the TV series Friday Night Dinner since 2011. Robert Popper, the show’s producer, paid tribute to Ritter after learning of his death. He tweeted, “Devastated at this horribly sad news.”
