With Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Warner Bros. has already delivered one of the year’s most anticipated (and longest) action box office hits, and now Godzilla vs. Kong has proved to be another jaw-dropping action blockbuster. The epic battle between the two best-known alpha titans is no joke, and the result is a massively entertaining film that reminds us why going to the movies used to be such a pleasurable experience in the pre-COVID era.
It can be a bit slow at first, but slowly the story gears up. Even though the movie was mainly Kong-centric, Godzilla has his own time to shine. The movie mainly wanted to portray the fact that they are sentient beings with reasons for their behavior. The subplot with Millie Bobby Brown (from Godzilla: King of the Monsters) was totally unnecessary and should have been removed, but it was kept in to fill in the gaps and add little to the narrative.
It is a bit of a disappointment when the film concludes in a non-committal manner, with Godzilla and Kong as equals and vanquishing Mechagodzilla (disarming Mechagodzilla by pouring whiskey on the device) would be so easy? Would not deny the fact that the fights to be awesome and imposing. Overall the movie is a treat for the eyes and low-key predictable.
