Video games and Gameplays have become very prevalent among young adults and teenagers these days, 70% of the parents said their teenagers spend too much time playing video games and 40% of adolescent boys play video games every day, on the other hand, only 20% of girls were reported to play these games daily. Boys are also more likely to spend more than long hours playing the games, than girls.
Though video games serve as a major venue for the creation and maintenance of friendships, one of the main disadvantages of this process is, Video gaming (mainly violent ones) can be linked with aggression and this is one of the hot issues for psychological researches.
The results showed that there was a significant positive link between exposure to violent video games and adolescent aggression, family environment moderates the first part of the process. Family violence, parenting style, and other family factors have major effects on adolescent aggression. For Ex- In the case of children with less parental interaction, predictability of violent media exposure, the amount of aggression is stronger.
There’s a group of young adults who also use gaming as a means of releasing their frustration, sometimes it also gives rise to anxiety in many individuals as well as make them more likely to become bullies and victims of traditional bullying and cyberbullying. Therefore this article not only confirms the effects of violent video games on adolescent aggression but also brings out the internal and external factors causing it.
