What is Microsoft’s ‘Virtual Commute’?

-

Microsoft’s virtual commute is a brainchild of the Microsoft Team. Due to the existence of the global pandemic, all businesses have started their transformation into the digital sphere and it is very predictable that Microsoft teams would come up with numerous ideas and would make things happen.

This feature has been introduced because Microsoft realized that people are missing their daily commute(traveling some distance between one’s home and place of work on a regular basis) – or at least, realizing the fact that commuting isn’t that bad which marks a start and end to a regular working day.

Work from home or remote working has sure affected the mental setup of professionals who used to work at a traditional office setting into a totally different environment blurring the lines between work and home.

This update is set up to come about in 2021. Employees will be able to use Microsoft Commute to keep track and restore work and home time respectively. This feature can be scheduled as well and would notify as well as alert the individuals about the scheduled activities of the day and prompt them to set goals for the following day. With the help of this feature, Microsoft Team assumes people would be able to feel closer to their workspace from now on.

For example, Teams will prompt users to list tasks as completed or add them to tomorrow’s to-do list, while asking workers to rate how their day went and suggesting guided meditation, through an integration with the Headspace app.

Pandemic-related burnout and difficulty separating work and personal life has become a surprisingly common concern among Microsoft’s corporate customers, according to Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela. “The thing we didn’t predict that we’ve learned is now at the top of customers’ mind is really the well-being of their employees,” he said.

Microsoft will also enable its workplace analytics software to help employers spot and support workers who are at risk of burnout. The software looks at things like an after-hours collaboration by an entire team and how that compares with similar teams. New features coming next year will let employers run programs that remind team members to avoid undue overtime.
