Behind her eyes: The final twist to leave you surprised

-

‘Behind Her Eyes’, has a very relevant title because it is always, “more than what meets the eye”, both literally and symbolically. There’s a lucrative twist at the end of the six-episode mini-series that changes the whole game, I won’t reveal it because it might spoil things if you have not watched it yet.

Before I say anything about the show, let me tell you it is an adaption of Sarah Pinborough’s novel of the same name, if you don’t know it already. The episodes start off at a much slower pace compared to any other thriller and even though when events take up a bit of pace, everything gives you the “been there, seen that” feeling.

The first three episodes almost give a sense of some kind of love triangle between the three lead characters. Louis (Simona Brown), a single mother crashes into a hot Scottish man in a bar, David (Tom Bateman) only to find out the next day that he is her new boss, not only that he is also married to a beautiful woman, Adele (Eve Hewson). Things start to spice up between these three as Louis starts sleeping with David with simultaneously striking a friendship with Adele. What follows is a web of lies and secrets waiting to be unfolded.

The screenplay gets it correct and is intriguing most of the time, except when it is not. The one element that makes or breaks ‘Behind Her Eyes’ is – astral projection. Astral Projection, which builds up the whole climax of the show, is introduced in the eleventh hour, somewhere in the middle of the fifth episode. This is exactly why the twisted ending might not work for many, because they didn’t get enough time to get accustomed to it, astral projection is a massive topic and to introduce it in the eleventh hour doesn’t leave much time to explain about it. However, the strength of the story lies in the fact that there are no plotholes, once the final twist punches in, every loose end will be tied and everything that didn’t seem to make sense will make sense.

The background score is suited to the screenplay and the performances are good.

If you are a fan of unexpected last-minute twists and unpredictable plots, then ‘Behind Her Eyes’ is definitely a must-watch for you!
