The Italian manufacturer Aprilla is one of the most cherished and loved Italian brand among bike enthusiasts, as they produce some of the friendliest motorcycles. The pricing for their products is also quite reasonable. More than a decade ago when the liter-class beast was launched in India, the public reaction was like so-so. But after some regular updates and the unmatched electronic packages made it the perfect bike to own. While other manufacturers were confused between updated technologies and aesthetics, Aprilia managed to give everything without stressing a lot.
The Tuono 660 was first showcased in EICMA-2019 in Milan, while the production-ready bike is very similar to the fresh concept. The Tuono will share the heart with its fully-faired sibling RS-660, but except for few extra panels and engine tweaks to extract that little extra power. The Tuono will have a 660cc parallel-twin that manages to produce 95bhp whereas the RS-660 will produce five extra horses while producing 67Nm torque.
The kerb weight is around 183 kgs, which is similar to bikes of the same class. The expected price is estimated between ₹10lakh- ₹12lakh (approx). The most noticeable features are the presence of a half fairing with a belly pan, to make the bike more aerodynamic. But the handlebar is not a clip-on bar, but the instrument cluster is a color TFT. Though the headlamp is all new the same is carried forward from RS, but it still manages to retain the triple headlight setup like the bigger sibling RSV4.
While both the bikes the Tuono and RS share most elements, some differentials in the frame, subframe, and handlebars make the Tuono more adapted for roads, whereas RS feels right at home on the track. The Tuono is launched in the US for $10,499 (INR ₹7.69lakh) and the Trippy Acid Gold is priced at $10,699 (INR ₹7.84lakh). Both the Tuono and RS-660 will be available in India in the second quarter. Before that happens?… For now, we can only look at the image and drool.
