With the advent of this lockdown, the release of cinema has gone digital. There are new releases almost every week. Here are 4 new releases that you can catch up with this week.
The Last Color: The movie by Vikas Khanna is an adaptation of Khanna’s own book of the same name. Set in Varanasi, a widow befriends a tightrope walker who belongs to the untouchable caste, they develop a mother-daughter bond and give each other the love and care they are deprived of. The film holds up an image of the widows and their lives in Varanasi. The film’s first look was unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival and has since traveled around the world to various film festivals including New York Indian Film Festival 2019 and won the best feature film and the best actress at the International Indian Film Festival of Boston.
Maara: It is a Tamil romantic-drama and a remake of the 2015 Malayalam film ‘Charlie’. Parvathy is a restoration architect who visits a village in Kerala and finds a childhood story she heard, painted across the town. The film has some beautiful frames shot across shot India. Some said ‘Maara’ was better than the movie it was remade from while others failed to find the same charm in ‘Maara’ that ‘Charlie’ had. The film stars R Madhavan and ShraddhaSrinath in lead roles.
Unpaused: This movie, is an anthology of 5 short stories shot during the lockdown, and each of these stories comprises the portrayal of different situations that could have taken place amidst the lockdown. ‘Unpaused’, is a beautiful ensemble of slice-of-life tales about loneliness, love, life, and hope. The film will be an important film as an account of history in this virus-laden period. The film stars GulshanDeviah, SaiyamiKher, RichaChadda, Ratna Pathak Shah, Abhishek Kapoor in lead roles.
Soorarai Pottru: This film by Sudha Kongara tells the story of Nedumaaran Rajangam known to friends as Maara, the son of a teacher, who sets out to make the common man fly and takes on the capital intensive industry in the world with the help of his friends, family, and sheer power. SooraraiPottru was selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe awards. The film recently joined the race for Oscars, “Happy Republic Day! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS under General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, and other categories! The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room today.”, tweeted the film’s lead on Republic day.
