“DIL BECHARA” Film Review – A teary-eyed adieu to Sushant Singh Rajput

-

Adapted from John Green’s 2012 novel, “ The Fault In Our Stars”,  ‘Dil Bechara’ is a very heart-rending film which does make the audience go on an emotional roller-coaster. Starring Late Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghvi in the lead roles, Streaming free on Disney+Hotstar as a tribute after the passing of Sushant Singh Rajput.

The setting of the movie is in Jamshedpur. The movie opens with the lead character Kizzie Basu is seen empathizing with a random family at their funeral because it makes her feel more connected with the pain they’re going through. She’s scared of making her loved ones go through that pain because of the uncertainty of her life.  Kizzie Basu suffers from thyroid cancer, which has affected her lungs for which she needs to carry the oxygen cylinder everywhere she goes. All she craves is a normal life like any other person.

She meets “Manny”, who addresses himself as Immanuel Rajkumar Junior for the whole movie, in the most unexpected sphere of her life. Kizzie, at first, finds herself cringing over his dance steps and preferences but slowly gives in to the love interest. Manny has been a very supportive, charming person who made Kizzie realize that even when the last days of your life are counting, it is solely upon us on how we are going to make the best out of it.

With immense love and imperishable support from her parents, beautifully played by Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee, Kizzie added Manny to the list of people who she can’t even afford to lose. She visits Paris with Manny after several warnings from her Doctor and parents, who later agrees to her wish with a condition because all they cared about was her happiness.

Soon, the story turns very grim as we get to see Manny, who survived osteosarcoma and was in abeyance, flare-up eventually pushing him off the edge. Kizzie tries to around him making the last days memorable, knowing the uncertainty of the case.

Director Mukesh Chabbra has made the audience go through a whirlwind of emotions, with the music by A.R.Rahman and each role perfectly executed. The fact that this is the last movie gifted to us by Sushant, just makes the audience miss his presence on a different level. This movie would forever be close to our hearts.
