St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, has got the approval from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to begin M.B.A. programme and is going to start the M.B.A. Course from the coming Academic Year: 2018-19 in the Xavier Business School (XBS) under the university at its New Town (Rajarhat) campus in Kolkata. It will be two-year full time residential course, offering specializations in Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Systems & Operations. The permission has been obtained for two sections with sixty students in each. The state of the art, Smart and air-conditioned class rooms and amphitheaters are ready. A separate updated library having access to a number of on line renowned professional journals, will be operational soon in the new library building before the commencement of the academic session. Modern computer lab with adequate number of computer terminals and a state of the art language lab have already been set up for the M.B.A. department. The curriculum and syllabus are finalized and admission process of the students have already begun through national and international level admission tests like XAT, CAT, GMAT and others. The process of recruitment of faculty has also been started. Twin Hostels, for boys and girls are coming up and will be ready before the M.B.A. students join, where separate floors will be earmarked for the M.B.A. students.
Xavier Business School, Kolkata, is a member of XAMI (Xavier Association of Management Institutes), which consists primarily of the Management Institutes run by the Jesuits, such as, XLRI (Jamshedpur), XIMB (Bhubaneshwar), LIBA (Chennai), XIME (Bengaluru), etc. So, there will be collaborations in terms of faculty exchange and in other areas with these established and renowned Management Schools of the country, which will be a great advantage for the students of XBS, Kolkata. Being a Jesuit Management Institution, it will not only impart hardcore knowledge and skills for budding Managers but will also prepare them as good human being by instilling values in them, which is very much required in the modern business world with cut throat competition.
EDP: The XBS will also offer MDP/EDP (Management/Executive Development Programmes) for those who are working and/or who have work experience in the near future. These Programmes will be on shorter duration and may be focused on the need of the particular industry.
Other New Courses from coming Academic year: The new courses which will be offered by the university from the coming academic session include UG and PG in Economics, UG in English and Mass Communication. These will be over and above the courses already being offered like PG in English, Mass Communication, Commerce and Social Work and UG in Commerce and Management Studies.
New Courses in Future: However, plans are there to begin UG and PG Courses in Multi Media, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science, Law etc., from subsequent academic years.
PhD and Research Activities: Research Activities are going to be a major thrust area of St. Xavier’s University in the coming years. In addition to academic research leading to PhD, other consultancy and Research projects from the National Institutions and Agencies and also from the Industry will be undertaken.
Law School: As a part of Vision 2025 of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, a full-fledged Law School will also be set up under the university.
Sports Management Academy: There is also a plan to set up a Sports Management Academy under the university to cater to the growing demands of the field so that pass outs from this academy will be able handle the rules, regulations and manage the business related activities concerning sports and games at the national and international level.
Community College: St. Xavier’s University is committed to the social causes and will set up a Community College under the university, where Six month Certificate Courses and One Year Diploma Programmes will be run in the vocations, in which local boys and girls will be interested and there will be readily available job opportunities in the market.
Development: Apart from the Academic Block, the work is in progress for the Boys’ and Girls’ Hostel Buildings, the Library/Facility Building and Utility Building.
The University can approach the State Govt. for further 10 acres of land to accommodate all its expansion programmes.
The Academic Block of the University has been named after L.N. and Usha Mittal Foundation. Mr. L. N. Mittal has generously donated for Vision 2020. Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Dr. J. Felix Raj, SJ, will be meeting him on 21 May 2018 in London to apprise him of the progress of the university and discuss with him about the expansion plans of the university in 2025.
