11 October,2017, Kolkata: Sudipta Chanda hosted a unique exhibition Bachchan Nama to celebrate Sri Amitabh Bachchan’s 75 th birth anniversary between 11 October,2017-14 October,2017 at Jamini Roy Art Gallery ( ICCR ), 3PM-8PM ,Kolkata through more than 50 original film posters of his films. He has been collecting film posters from his college days. It’s his passion. He loves those artworks. Though he is from journalism background and currently into public relations. He still collects old film posters and have more than 1000 odd titles in his collection. Amit Kumar Fan Club which turned thirteen this year also joined hand in hand. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Antara Chowdhury, Devajit Bandyopadhyay, Riddhi Bandyopadhyay, Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee,Mallar Ghosh,Prodyut Mukherjee,Arnab Bandyopadhyay,Chandrima Bhattacharya and so on.
Bachchan Nama dealed popular films like Sholay, Shaan, Don, Zanjeer, Deewar, Majboor, Coolie even not so popular films like Sanjog, Bandhe Haath, Pyar Ki Kahani covering a high range of verity with difference sizes as 20/30.30/40, 2 Sheet, even 6 Sheet posters. Those were the days when artiste used to draw posters manually and lithography was the only method of printing posters. To draw attention of public different designs of posters of the same film used to initiate. Those are simply collector’s delight. These posters are very much rare now a days. Definitely it was a must visit venture for all Big B fans.
Amitabh Bachchan fans fondly call him Big B completed 75 years of his birth.A journey to remember with high regards indeed. From no one to the top being a trendsetter movie icon he is still walking tall. He even experienced many ups and downs but never gave up.
We created a promotional artwork for promoting the venture besides a promotional audio visual promo based on his original posters presented very creatively by a young talented boy Sayan Biswas, while the poster has been designed by Ekta Bhattacharya.
“ This was my first ever exhibition being a film poster collector. I still keep my hobby alive and feel proud whenever I go through my collection. It thrills me. Each and every posters are a great piece of art. It should be preserved properly. From Bombay Talkies , New Theatre films to today’s digital age posters I have always concentrated on musicals mostly. I have also got offers for coming up with some thematic books on film posters too.” Said Sudipta Chanda. He added “ We must have a hobby that can be cherished forever.”
