Kolkata Feb.18, 2016: 107 years old Indian classical vocalist Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan left his followers and disciples for his heavenly abode on Thursday, 18th February 2016 at 8 am. Born on August 19, 1908 Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan was a resident guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.

The maestro had received Padma Bhushan in 2013 and was the oldest person ever to be conferred a Padma award. Later he was also awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 by Government of NCT of Delhi.

The music scholars at Sangeet Research Academy believe that the demise of Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan is a huge loss to the Hindustani music genre, and that it feels like as if a shadow of an old experienced tree has been taken away.

The singer’s lifeless body has been kept at the research academy’s residence for his disciples to seek his blessings for the last time.
