In 2007 a few individuals came together to invent a revolutionary device which would allow people to read entire collections of novels while in the midst of their daily fast track lives. Devices fed the need of the people to keep at their reading habits which real books were not able to.
Has the habit of reading books increased or fallen low- the argument still continues. Avid readers and bibliophiles still find their way into their never ending search for enlightening literature, the same child-like thrill and adventure along with the cultural integration through words that rarely any other form of media provides.
‘Ekush e-book’ is a collection of the entire works of three eminent writers all set to fit into the pockets of readers.
Bangla Academy Award winner Imdadul Hak Milan is a popular storyteller whose hundreds of tales have multitudinous facets in form and content. Afzal Hossain is a name known in almost every house in Bangladesh. An insightful writer, actor, director and painter, Hossain is also considered the sole architect of the modern advertisement industry in the country. Popular film producer Faridur Reza Sagar who is the recipient of several international awards including the Bangla Academy Awards, is also a popular children’s storyteller.
“In today’s age you see everyone with mobile phones and tabs with so many features that will make your head go crazy. They play games; watch films; so much want of so many things. We also think that any booklover will find a way to read the books he wants. We strongly believe that this initiative in the direction of making Bangladesh’s Bengali literature reaches out to the masses and youth will be received well”, said Asaduzzaman Noor, Cultural Minister, Bangladesh.
“In primary stage, the e-book will showcase the works of Imdadul Haque Milan, Faridur Reza Sagar and Afzal Hossain. Later other works will also be included in the book,” said Kazi Zashimul Islam, CEO OK Mobiles.
Readers can order the e-Book online or become a member of the e-Book library where thousands of books of Bengali literature culminating several genres will be added within the year. Bengali literature both from Bangladesh and Kolkata will be showcased in the library.
