Jharkhand: Stampede in Deogarh Kills 11 Injures over 40

Today is the second Monday of the auspicious Shravan month according to Hindi mythology. Devotees of Lord Shiva visit the temples in Deogarh to offer their prayers during this time.

11 people including a woman were killed with over 40 injured in a stampede near the Baidnyanath temple at Belabagan More, about 350 kilometres from Ranchi, civil surgeon Diwakar Kamath told PTI. The stampede occured where people tried to jump the queue around 4AM.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das expressed their grief over the fatal incident. The Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs for the people who were killed in the incident and according to another official statement, the injured shall be compensated with Rs. 50,000.
